We Understand Eating Disorders
Thanks to decades of helping our past clients overcome Eating Disorders, the experts at Canopy Cove understand eating disorders and also know the most effective treatment approach to use to facilitate recovery. We understand that Eating Disorders are complex conditions caused by a combination of factors including biological, psychological and environmental factors. We combine the latest information from research with our vast experience to provide the most effective treatment protocol for our clients.
Our Recovery Philosophy
Our program is based on The Recovery Model which states that full recovery from an Eating Disorder is possible. The Recovery Model identifies the eating disorder as a symptom of deeper, unresolved issues. We assist clients in identifying and resolving the underlying causes of the eating disorder as well as developing a more balanced relationship with food. Once a person learns how to effectively confront these issues and the emotions they produce, the eating pattern and relationship with food stabilizes. Consequently, you can “recover” from an eating disorder, rather than remaining in the perpetual process of “recovering.” The true heart of the Recovery Model is more than behavioral change; it encompasses personal growth and development of life management skills. Because our program addresses the underlying symptoms of the Eating Disorder, clients are able to experience a deeper and more lasting recovery.
Each Person Receives a Customized Treatment Plan
Each person we treat is unique and receives a customized treatment approach tailored to their specific needs. As part of the admission process, each client has a detailed evaluation by members of our multi-disciplinary eating disorder treatment team. Our entire clinical staff will review these assessments to ensure that a unique customized treatment plan is developed for you.
We Offer a Multi-Disciplinary Team Approach
We offer top level care by utilizing a Multi-Disciplinary Team Approach with close collaboration among the medical, clinical, and support staff. This approach has proven highly effective in providing the most effective treatment for our clients. Our team includes:
- Primary Therapist (Ph.D.)
- Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Psychiatrist (MD)
- Internal Medicine Physician (MD)
- Registered Dietitian (RD)
- Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS)
We Specialize in Treating Eating Disorders with a Co-Existing Dual-Diagnosis
It is our experience that many people who receive treatment for an eating disorder are also dealing with a second diagnosis such as Depression, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Self-harm, or addiction. Because these conditions can impact the recovery process, we prioritize early identification of co-occurring disorders. We simultaneously treat dual diagnosis to provide the most effective treatment.
We Address Family Issues
At Canopy Cove, we recognize that eating disorders can affect more than just the one who joins us. Very often other family members are impacted by the disorder, creating harrowing results that should not be ignored. This is why our comprehensive treatment includes weekly family therapy and family education.
Our family therapists interact with clients and their family members to further facilitate an understanding of eating disorders. Sessions focus on topics such as communication, conflict resolution, anger management and restoring broken relationships. For out of town family members we offer the convenience of teleconference calls. This comprehensive approach is a key contributor to our ability to assist you.
We Provide High Quality Care in a Home-Like Setting
Canopy Cove is located in a private and peaceful setting among 55 acres of rolling hills, huge oak trees and open field dotted with grazing horses. The campus is an ideal spot for restoration and recovery with a residential home for adult women and a separate house for adolescent females. Both homes provide a tranquil, welcoming setting with a positive atmosphere.
We Offer effective Experiential Treatments Including Equine Therapy
Including horses in the recovery process has been proven to enhance the results of Eating Disorder Treatment. Experiential therapy, such as equine, offers unique opportunities for growth that are often not available through other methods. When a person interacts with a horse, the horse often mirrors what the person is feeling, allowing for deep insights into their own feelings. Equine therapy is held each week. Horses are kept onsite and clients are free to interact with them on a daily basis.
We Provide 3 Levels of Care
Our center offers three levels of treatment which allows clients to maintain continuity of care as they make progress in recovery and are able to step down to a new program.
Partial Residential Programs – Also called Day Treatment or Partial Hospitalization Program
Smaller Group Sizes.
It is our experience that the best results are achieved when the group size is kept small so that each person is able to contribute and participate. We avoid large groups because often only a few people in the group will receive the focused attention needed for recovery. To ensure the highest quality care, we limit group size to 4 to 10 people.
Our unique programs help clients learn life management skills and new coping mechanisms, practice them in a real-life environment, and gain the confidence needed to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Respect for Our Clients
We have the highest respect for clients as they reach out for help. We believe that criticism, judgment, or taking away privileges are not beneficial in the treatment of eating disorders.
We’re a Non-Denominational Christian-Based Program.
Our caring team is fully devoted to your recovery. We provide compassionate care in a positive and nurturing environment. Our Christian-Based program readily accepts all clients, including those who do not identify with a specific belief system. We stand on the foundation of love, not judgment.
