Often a person who is seeking treatment for Bulimia is in a state of near hopelessness. Feelings of shame, anger, fear, sadness, anxiety and other complex emotions are so entrenched in the daily routine that it seems impossible to imagine life without these feelings.

In many cases, a person with Bulimia symptoms has a record of excelling both academically or professionally and can’t understand why they continue to purge despite their desire to stop the negative physical, emotional, social and/or spiritual consequences that are caused by the eating disorder.

If you or a loved one is dealing with Bulimia, help is available and full recovery is possible even if the condition has been present for an extended time.

Lasting Recovery

At Canopy Cove, we know that lasting recovery is a result of addressing much more than the eating disorder symptoms. Our effective treatment addresses the core issues responsible for the development of the eating disorder and supports clients as they address and resolve these underlying issues. Our treatment philosophy is based on The Recovery Model which states that full recovery from bulimia is possible.

A Customized Treatment Program:

Each person we treat is unique and receives a customized approach tailored to their specific needs. As part of the admission process, each client has a detailed evaluation by the members of our multi-disciplinary eating disorder team. The assessments are reviewed with our entire clinical staff and used in developing a customized treatment plan. This close collaboration among the medical, clinical and support staff has proven highly effective in providing the most effective eating disorder treatment. Our treatment team includes:

  • Primary therapist (PHD)
  • Family therapist (LMFT)
  • Psychiatrist (MD)
  • Internal medicine physician (MD)
  • Registered dietician (RD)
  • Eating disorders specialist (CEDS)

We increase recovery rates by taking a Comprehensive Approach.

A Comprehensive approach means we address all contributing issues such as dual-diagnosis and family issues.

Dual Diagnosis: It is our experience that a high number of people who receive treatment for an eating disorder also are dealing with a second diagnosis such as Depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Self-harm, or Anxiety.

Often, the second diagnosis is uncovered in the course of treatment. Because these conditions can impact the recovery process, Canopy Cove Treatment Center prioritizes early identification of co-occurring disorders. We simultaneously treat dual diagnosis to provide the most effective treatment.

Family Issues: We know that the individual who comes to Canopy Cove is not the only one affected by the disorder. Very often other family members have been impacted. This is why our treatment is comprehensive and includes family education and weekly family therapy. Our family therapists interact with the clients as well as family members, facilitating an understanding of eating disorders and focusing on topics such as communication, conflict resolution, anger management, and restoring broken relationships. For out of town family members, we offer tele-conference calls.
